Strong Performance by highlights Staff

Our award-winning newspaper highlights staff attended the National Student Press Association's fall convention. Lola Duffort won a Superior rating for News Writing; Beth Stone won an Excellent rating for Review Writing; and Adrian Chamberlain received an Honorable Mention for Commentary.  Over 6,500 students attended from all over the world and each competition served over 150 participants respectively. Only the top 30% of the competitors were honored with these recognitions. Congratulations to all.

Students Get a Lesson In Law

A group of Coral Gables High students received one-on-one mentoring and got to see how things work at the law firm of Bilzin Sumberg as part of the Legal Diversity Pipeline project and a partnership with the local law firm.  Bilzin Sumberg is one of only four law firms in the nation to be selected to take part in the project.  The purpose of the Legal Diversity Pipeline project is to increase representation of women and ethnic minorities in the legal profession.

Cavalier Athletics Golf Extravaganza

The Cavalier Baseball Booster Club is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Cavalier Athletics Golf Extravaganza to be held Sunday, December 6th at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa.  There will be food, prizes, and a raffle.  Sponsorship opportunities are available and all proceeds benefit Cavalier athletics.  For more information contact Coach Wisser (pwisser@dadeschools.net).

IB Open House

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Open House will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:30 pm in the school's auditorium (located on the Le Jeune side of the building).  All interested parents and students who would like to learn more about the program are welcome.  At the meeting the IB program’s history, Gables’ curriculum, advantages for college, and much more will be discussed.  All students interested in applying for the following school year are strongly encouraged to attend.

Gables Stands Against Violence
  • October 14, 2009, 530 freshmen signed a School Pledge of Nonviolence that has become the Coral Gables High School pledge that all our students will take a stand against violence in their school and community.

  • Coral Gables High School has created a system where students can now send text messages regarding any concerns they may have. Students will have the opportunity to report a crime or the possibility of one to a professional at the school via text message and remain anonymous. Parents can text any concerns they may have as well.

  • Violence in our schools is unwanted and intolerable.  Students deserve a safe learning environment.  To make our schools safer, everyone can and must pitch in.
